I'm pretty sure that it would be possible to breed "up" for a certain event even with Arabians..I know even Haflingers who beat QH in NRHA competitions...but let's hope nobody does it...IMHO.
You know, up until the mid '90's in Germany (I'm German), an Arabian stallion used for breeding had to do the same stallion performance test the warmbloods do, against warmbloods. 100 days at a test center. Dressage, jumping, cross country and racing, and also temperament and rideability were evaluated. By different riders who did that for a living. And Arabians frequently beat the warmbloods. And only stallions who passed were allowed to breed. Until the WAHO decided any purebred Arabian had a right to breed....don't know if that was such a good idea........

I do agree that given enough time we could breed up to competeing on the national level with QH's in cow horse events.
There were Arabians that were used as foundation sires of some of the first QH's and Paints.
There is plenty of arabian blood in QH's that is for sure.
Look at the heads on those cutters and reiners.
They are pretty refined and some have pronounced dishes.
In fact the stallion Indraff did indeed sire two Register of Merit earning QH's.
However I think if Arabian breeders followed the breeding trends of QHs and specialized each event the breed would suffer in the long run.

Yup. Indy Sue and Indy Mac.
Then Sheila Varian comes to mind, her Ronteza and a lot of other Varian horses excel in cutting, reining and working cow. Then Al Marah bred horses.

Deserthorsewoman are you trying to force me to refine my breeding program and aim it at reining?
I have some good well muscled mares as well as cow bred QH's and a few 1'2 arabs.
That stud fee does look good on Matt Dillion.
Now if they have a discount for booking early I will send you the bill.
There is a QH mare that I rescued this year that foaled a very correct filly.
I do not have the papers as she was chased into my yard before she foaled.
Both mare and filly are pure bre QH's though ranch bred to from south Texas.
The mare is very well trained just has trust issues from former abuse.
I am considering keeping her after seeing the filly.
Matt dillion would make an excellent cross. Shalom
