need a name

Well Santa arrived at 8:00 am with my newly adopted mare. She hads come froma closed PMU barn in North Dakota - She is a Grulla in color and a Draft mix. She maybe in foal . Anyway I need some help with a name and I figured you folks would be the best help - The rescue group calls her matilda- I'm not a big fan of it. So please post those suggestions!!

Its deemed unlucky to change a horse's name- and I have good reason to believe its true :/ you could just use a similar nickname e.g monny or something which suggests something about her, for instance my flicka is greeedy, so gets the name pig :)

When I saw her photo the name Lilly came to mind... I think people make their own luck and perhaps a new name could mark a new beggining for this poor girl!

Yuck.. Matilda?...the first thing that came to mind was the song "Waltzing Matilda" Its an Australian song about a HoBo..In Australia a bed bundle is called a "Matilda"...

Its bad to rename a boat, but horse names is ok... I've had four that got renamed...Lets see since she is HALF draft, you should stick with tradition and give her a HUMAN name...But try a bunch and see what she comes other words..see which one she likes...

Mattie (another version of her already given name)

Lakota (Sioux for friend)

Leila (dark haired Beauty)

Funny that the names Lillie, and Leila came up . I was kicking them around. As well as Lola As far as her original name - she has no idea she even has a name - I think it was just given to her for identification purposes.
I'm new to drafts - so what does that mean stick with tradition and give a human name?

My previous instructors mum never liked horses with human names. She said they were cursed haha. I personally get on very well with mares with human names... Each to there own eh??

As to tradition, I suppose people used to treat their horses like members of the family when they were essential for an income so mayby people gave there horses human names more often

Drafts were considered part of the family since they helped make the money and feed the family.. I have three full drafts:

My half drafts are:

Angelica (Angel)

Wakina ( who came with the name "BIG GUY" prior to that "WRANGLE" , prior to that "Goliath" ) Wakina means "thunder"

She looks like a ZeZa to me more than any of the other names...
