Exclamation Need new home for my horse.

My horse's leg atrophied a few months back. We did surgery in hopes that we would be able to ride her again. At this point she is dead lame, and we can no longer afford to keep her. Euthanasia is out of the question. Is there a place that we can take her where she can be set out to pasture to live out her years? Her name is susie and she is about 10 years old. Does anyone have any advice for me?

where do you live? I want to lease out one of my horses but that would leave the other one alone. My mom and me would consider free or cheap boarding.

If she's dead lame, how does she have any quality of life? Just curious.

I would try giving her away as a companion horse. Does she require any care like bute or hosing etc? if she does, I would honestly consider putting her to sleep. It's not fair to let her suffer and not to be rude, you can't expect someone else to care and invest money in a horse you owned that can't be used.
I would try looking into giving her away as a companion horse. There are some people who just want to have horses on their property. People who are not interested in doing anything with them, but yet be able to enjoy that companionship or the beautifulness of having a horse. The only issue with that is that you have to be careful you don't end up giving your horse away to a meat buyer.

I can't imagine being in your position. Must be soooo difficult. Hope you can find a solution.

Cheers.
