Need some words of encouragement. :'(

I fell off today. And I've fallen off before. I was going over a jump and my horse has a habit of getting too close to the right and I caught my foot on the standard and pulled it down. I had it set up so it was just a 2'3" box and only the standard had fallen. I tried to jump it that way, and after the first refusal he did, but he caught it and knocked it over and bolted/twisted and I hit the ground face down. I know it was a stupid idea, but at the time I just wanted to get him over it. Of course I got back on and jumped it again, but I guess my ego is really hurt and I just feel worthless as a rider :'( I've worked so hard to get us where we are and we were doing so well, but now I feel like im going to have to start back at square one AGAIN. I know I shouldnt feel bad for myself, but its just mentally scarring. Help please? :(

It'll be okay Cosmo! We all have our bad times. Just try starting of low next time-take it at an easy pace. Sometimes horses just need refreshers. Take a few days' break from jumping and just get you and your horse mentally ready. Take it easy. I promise it will past- just a bad day:)

Don't feel stupid, everyone makes mistakes, and by making them mistakes will help you understand what you did wrong, so then you can fix that problem.
Jumping isn't an easy sport to do, and YES it can be scary, you just may need to lower your jumps and take your horse over it at a smaller level and work your way up from there. It's not just about your horse, its about both of you working together, so if you are not confident don't do it, just work from a level that you are confident at and you will be more confident then to go higher.

And don't worry about the fall that you had, cause you will have probabley have plenty of falls off horses over time, iam very pleased that you got back on your Nobal Steve LOL good luck with your horse in the future

As long as it was not at the show/clinic (like it happened to me once), your ego should be sleeping. Everyone falls once in while - it's just part of activity.

Thanks guys. I've calmed down now and thought about it some more. I guess I was just so determined to get him over that jump that when I hit the ground I felt like I had failed. My mom was really good about it though. Usually she freaks out, but after she knew I was okay, just a little banged up, she made me jump it again, and finish what I had planned to do with him. It didnt really make me feel better, since when I got off I went to the barn and just started balling into my horses neck. He looked sooo ashamed too. He just had that "im really sorry mommy :(" look on his face.

Also, there was a young guy working a horse in the roundpen nearby who saw everything and he probably thought I was crazy heh.

Everyone has falls at least yours wasn't at a show or anything haha now that is embrassing.

It's good you got back on and jumped it again, your confidence probably will take a knocking but I believe it makes you a better rider :)
I fell off a couple of months ago at pony club very embrassing was on the ground for like 20mins. But I got back on and jumped again.
My confidence is knocked back but I now know not to push Buzz, I don't think he was ready for that height
