Hi... I couldn't decided where to post these questions so I hope here is OK...
The short story is that I'm 15 and lived in the burbs pretty much my whole life, I've always loved horses and wanted one and went trail riding for fun on holidays sometimes. My family and I are moving to a old farm house my dad wants to so up in outter rural central coast, NSW, Australia. We are going to get chickens and my mum said I could get a horse. I'm so excited but I have no idea how to look after a horse let alone how to train one... My mum is going to look into classes/school for beginners but I was hoping I could ask some questions here first...
I was wondering if it is OK to have a horse just to ride and look after... I don't want to train it to jump or go to shows.. I just want to ride it everywhere and take it to the river and beach... I don't want to use a whip either... Do I have to? I read about bitless riding... Is it nicer for the horse? Also if I want a gentle horse what are some good breeds? I do not know a lot about horses but I am looking to learn as much as possible. Wen I used to trail ride my favourite horse was a female palomino...
