New Here- Introductions

Hi, my name is Anna; I am 52 years old and a life-long horse lover. I do not presently own a horse, tho I have owned 2 on the past. I sold my last one in 1986 after a BAD fall. For over 25 years, my contact with horses was very ,imited, then in December last year, a new horse rescue opened in town called A Hoof and a Prayer. I went to their open house, signed up as a volunteer, and have spent every weekend since there, mucking stalls, grooming, and have even started ground work training with an Appaloosa yearling filly named Jewel who has become my world.

I am hoping more than anything to be able to adopt Jewel in the near future. It's hard being a single woman trying to make ends meet, and having to figure out where board would come from. But I can't imagine losing her, either.

I also have 5 dogs- 2 Gordon Setters, a Papillon, a Rat Terrier and an elderly Papillon mix, plus 2 cats.

I am hoping to meet other horse people here, and learn more about these wonderful creatures I love so much!

Cinder, FlyGap and fastforty like this.

Thank you for the welcome! I think Jewel is a pretty little thing, too. She is such a sweetheart and tries so hard to please. I have never worked with a baby before, so this is all new to me. But she is an absolute delight. I love her like I never knew possible... after I lost my first horse I swore I would never love that deeply again.

Guess what? I lied.

Welcome Anna! I am also an "older" rider, although I have never owned my own horse, I rode a lot when I was younger. I got back into riding about 5months ago, and am looking forward to buying a horse in the near future.
Good for you, being involved with a horse rescue! That sounds like a perfect way to gently ease back into this. What a great thing for those horses too! Jewel sure is pretty, how old is she?
There is also a board here for over 40 owners and riders, the world of "re-learning" can be a trial at times, and there is everyone there from experts to beginners! You should come over and check it out!

Thank you guys for the warm welcome! I think I'm gona like it here a lot... just getting to talk horse with people that understand is great!

I will most defitely check out the over 40 forum, right up my alley. I also saw a plus size rider forum... also describes 'me'.

We don't know Jewel's exact age. They got her in November from an auction-she was going to the kill buyer!! and was told she was 8 months old. So that would put her about 17 months. She is my first step into working with a baby.

Have I mentioned that I love her?

Welcome to the forum!

Jewel is very pretty, I hope you can own her sooner rather than later!
