Question new horse? good deal

So as I said in a earlier thread. There is a POA that I would like to buy. But he is not completely trained. My 4h friend is asking 500 dollars. SO what I was think ing is do you think this is a good deal to make with him. I will give him 100 up front and take the horse for 1 month, if after the month I don't want him, the owner can keep the money and have the horse back but If I do want him I will pay him the rest of the 500. Is that a good deal?

I wouldn't give any $$ up front. It is common to take ahorse for trial/then decide to buy or not. The payment is taking care of the horse..board/feed etc while he is in your care.. if the buyer decides not to buy the horse simply returns to the owner

Okay thanks. Hope he goes for it. :)

Asking to lease for a month is a good way to test out a horse. You can try telling him that you want to make sure you can provide the best care for his horse. As a seller it is important to make sure the horse can be managed well by the buyer.

This weekend I am bringing Candy on trial, and the contract states that we will pay 10% of the agreed price of the horse before the trial - although I can't remember off the top of my head whether it is refundable or not.

Make sure you get a contract, even if it is a friend, that says you are not responsible for anything that happens to yourself riding this horse, blah blah blah.
