New horse opportunity....but grief still fresh?

I would talk to your family first. Each individual has a different grieving process and you wouldn't want to cut that time short.

I've been thinking about this all day after I posted. I can tell you honestly that I've never loved a horse as much as my first three, especially my first horse Sky that was killed by the tornado and then Rooster my beloved.
I have Rick now, I waited almost 3 years before getting another horse for myself. I love him, but it isn't the same. I've had lots of horses, dumped, rescues, whatever. I took pride in helping them and finding them homes where they WOULD be loved. I enjoyed them, did them a great service, but I didn't love them.

Just make sure the one you are thinking about is THE ONE. You don't want to get one that you think you dig and then they don't do it for you. There is nothing wrong with Rick, it's just that he isn't indestructible Sky or person horse Rooster. Maybe he'll turn out to be my fantastic Rick, but right now I don't know.

I agree with whomever said take him for a trial and see how it goes!!! Good advice!
