A new horse product idea

So I was coming up with an idea and tossing around the idea of making my own tail bags, but then I thought about maybe making custom shammys or "Cool Coats" for horses.

When we were still showing dogs, we used Cool Coats ALLL the time in the summer. Basically they are a coat that you get wet, ring out, and throw over the dog to keep them cool. The material holds the water in and keeps them from overheating. I was thinking I could make my own, since during the summer it's not uncommon for horses at shows to get hot.

I see some breathable sheets, but I haven't seen on using the material canine cool coats are made of. I was thinking I could make them in a throatlatch version, a full neck-coat, and then a body sheet size. I could also use the excess to maybe be halter-covers, because I know a lot of horses sweat behind their ears and on their noses, or sweat drips down the face. I could put velcro on to take on and off halters, and I could make squares of the stuff as washcloths. We used them all the time for last-minute show touchups with the dogs...And drool rags

So what do you guys think? I plan on making some for myself, but if you guys think it could be something that would do okay, I could make some custom ones for people.

I think people would order them. But only if they are priced well. If you ask for too much people will talk themselves out of buying them with the 'horses in the wild get along just fine without those sheets' idea. I'm not saying that if you do price them high you won't get buyers, because you probably will, but most people would look at a high price and move on.
Very cool idea, though. I would definitely want one for my draft if it was inexpensive enough

Seems like a great idea! My only question though is how thick are they? I know whenever I washed my winter blanket for my horse it was extremely heavy to carry when soaked down with water. I just think the thicker it is, the more water absorbed, the heavier it will be.

Green Broke
Thats a good idea! Coming from a place where its usually about 120 degrees in the summer it would be great for rodeos and shows!

Bridgertrot, the material itself barely weighs anything. By the time you water them down and ring them out, they should weigh maybe a few ounces more than a cooler sheet.

I think I'm going to go ahead and start experimenting. Price of the sheets will depend, I'll have to check material prices again. We have some excess around but not a huge amount yet so I'll be needed to order some new.

Why not?

Oh, another thing I could make could be leg wraps out of the material with velcro
