AQHA doesn't have the option (that I could find) to pull the horses babies. So no way to tell if he was bred. Of course the babies would have had to have been registered anyway to tell that way....

Thanks for trying! When I searched him on allpedigree it only came up with info that I had supplied when I first got him. Those test results better come pretty fast...im getting a bit anxious!

How far are you from the vet? If close enough, I would WALK into the clinic and ask for the results standing there. Don't let them give you attitude, you paid for the service.
I would also ask, if they say she can't get back to you, IF the bloodwork was actually sent off for testing? It sounds like maybe the office staff didn't get the bloodwork sent off and now are making excuses.

I agree, if they have a physical office, take your butt down there and get in there face. If they give you attitude, give it to them right back. You pay for their services, if they choose to not be professional and conduct themselves in a professional manner by failing to maintain accurate records or returning phone calls when asked, they should expect to have pissed off clients out their behinds.

As if it couldnt get any worse, I got the bill in the mail today for the bloodwork. They split the farm call so my share was $15. Not so bad...too bad the bloodwork and the draw (they charged me seperate!) was $85!! From all that I have read, it is a simple blood test! They didnt do the HCG test that another poster had mentioned. Just a simple draw and off to the lab. If I wasn't angry before, I am now. I snapped on a riding buddy at the barn as she has one of the mares and I know that she had a big hand in forcing this bloodwork. I know it is not her fault but I had just read the bill so I was still pretty fired up. I told her I hope that they are all satisfied with the results. For $100 I hope it gives them some kind of peace of mind.

Here is why I am so mad at the BO and company. Nothing will change even if he is a full blown STALLION. The BO has made him his own pasture, secured fences and is totally comfortable with him there. The only horse he can get in with does happen to be a mare...one that is almost 4 hands higher than him and meaner than a rattlesnake. There wont be any further measures taken to secure the mares. The horses will still be turned out willy-nilly. (mares and geldings together) He will still have a stall. I cannot afford to have any surgery done on him right now. Maybe next year at tax time but right now, its just not an option. So why draw the blood? Just to know? Does this seem silly to anyone? All of the mares are back in heat now...Last time I checked mares stop coming into heat when they are bred.

I can tell you one thing for sure...that vet isn't going to like me much when she calls to give me the results. I will never use her services again...I don't care how much the BO likes her.

Did you look into the gelding support service I mentioned? My friend used the same vet she always used, but this service paid for the majority of the bill.

I'm sorry this vet is being an idiot, I wouldn't stand for it at all. If it were me, I'd get my results and give them hell. It's ridiculous, and inexcusable.

I did look into the STG program, the problem is that they only due current breeding stallions. Im sure there is a way to 'fudge' that but it clearly states on their website that they only help if it is a simple gelding procedure. No cryporchids, no proud cut. Since he doesnt have any visible testicles and the bloodwork *still* isnt back, I doubt they would be able to help. My husband and I just started our own business so money is tight as it is. Adding a $1000 vet bill would probably put us under. If I thought it was life threatening, I would find a way. The problem is with stable management...hes not the 'busting through fences' type...when he is turned out with mares, he does as he pleases. He's actually quite nice to ride and other than a few tossed heads and the occasional buck (hes a 'green reclaim') he's quite a good boy. Im just stuck. If I don't have that bloodwork by tomorrow, I think I will have to speak with my vets superviser (she works for a team of vets...shes at the bottom) Maybe they can tell me the truth.

BTW thank you everyone for listening to my issues. I appriciate all of your time and advice.

Gah! You got the bill before you got the results . I'd be pissed too at this point. Waiting stinks, but to have to pay for something before you even get the value of it .

So sorry you have this mess to deal with.

I understand why the OP is frustrated. But in the world of vet things it is totally common to pay for things before you get the results. Any vet (large and small animal) I have ever used requires payment at the time of service, which means I am writing a check before they leave my driveway with their vial of blood.

Oh, I see. That really bites. I'm sorry they wouldn't be able to help. =\

Me too, I ask for the price of everything he does before/while he's doing it, and he gets a check before he drives away, because if he's trying to do a few hundred dollar something that I don't NEED, I want to know before he does it.
