No heat mare

I have had my 6 year old mare for about 2 months now and she has yet to come into heat. Is this something I should be concerned about? She was not handled before I got her other than some general petting so is it possible that her cycle has gotten "off" since I have been working with her?

Some mares are really sneaky about their heat cycles. I doubt that you working with her would have altered her cycle enough for her to skip a cycle. I think what I would likely be more concerned with is wondering if she could have been exposed to a stallion at her former home.

It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have her preg-checked unless you know, without a doubt, that she's not been exposed to a stud.

Agree ^^^^ you should check she hasn't been with a stallion
Otherwise don't worry - I've had more mares that showed no real sign of being in season than I have had the PITA other sort!!!

I have 4 mares. Only one of them is super obvious about her heat cycles. The other three might as well be geldings.

I checked with previous owner when we got her because she was sooo round and he assured me she hadn't been exposed. Well I will just be thankful that it appears she won't be a "showy" mare. Thanks for the replies!

I would never count on a former owner. I'd be safe and have her checked.. better safe than sorry..
