Red face Non-horsey people take things the wrong way...

I used to have a sweatshirt that said "To ride or not to ride... What a stupid question!" and had a picture of a snaffle bit underneath. One day when I wore it to school (I think I was in highschool at the time) and this girl kept shooting me dirty looks. I finally asked her what her deal was, and she told me she thought my shirt was very inappropriate. Baffled, I asked her why? And explained that I rode horses (not sure how she didn't get that, I wore a horsey themed shirt practically every day back then lol). Apparently she thought it was referring to a different sort of riding and that the snaffle bit was a pair of handcuffs

Why is it that so many things having to do with horses sound really bad when taken out of context? Please share your stories

ROFL! I have that Tshirt,it's one of my favorites. I used to wear it on casual dress Fridays and since I worked for a sheriff's dept, you can guess I got that "kinky" look a LOT! I think it's hilarious!

You think that's bad? Try telling some of your non-horsey friends that you "Went out riding bareback" the other day, I lost another piece of my innocence when I figured out why they were staring.

When I purchased my saddle and two sets of spurs, the jokes were endless. I lived above the business where my husband worked, so anything shipped would show up there. And his coworkers had a hoot and a holler about me using the saddle and spurs on my husband.

I was browsing a tack shop with my boyfriend and ended up just getting a new crop, and it wasn't until I got to the car that I realized how awkward my purchase was.

Mine isn't really all too funny.

But once I had a picture on my fb called Two-Point

And this guy comments and he's all "I think that deserves more than 2 points, baby"

Uhh... okay????

Or when people ask what I do

"Oh I ride" and they just stare at me blankly.. gotta love it.

Or when I'm talking to my friend about mounting up.. yeah that always gets a lot of laughs.

Most of my friends are guys (and pretty perverted ones at that), so I never hear the end of it about my riding and all of the equipment I use. Even worse, now that I've signed up for the Navy (leaving in October for bootcamo) I get to hear jokes about my horse riding AND the fact that I'm going to be surrounded by a bunch of Seamen.

Foal
This is really more of a funny story, but it's funny and I love telling all of my horsey friends about it!

My boyfriend and I were at a rodeo for the night, and we had just set up our camp next to these people who had a few horses, two of which were a beautiful QH mare with her few-month old foal, who was wearing a halter. When we had finished setting up, 2 of my boyfriends friends came over to say hello. We were talking and stuff, when one of his friends turns this pasty white and his mouth drops open like he has just seen a yetti. We were wall like "What, what's wrong!?". Then he lift his arm and pointed shakily to the mare and foal. "THAT HORSE JUST HAD A BABY! OMG LOOK, IT'S JUST HAD A BABY!" and then his other friend replied, "OMG IT HAS TOO! THAT HORSE JUST HAD A BABY! IT WASN'T THERE BEFORE! OMG!". I just starred at them like "Are you freaking serious..." while my boyfriend tried to tell them that she didn't just have a foal. We ended up talking them out of telling the owners about their mares "sudden birth", but they still went and told all of our friends how they "Saw a baby horse being born". Alcohol + Horses + Non-Horsey people= Plenty of laughs

DH and I went to shop for boots one time. We are walking into the mall and he spits out "I don't know why you have to have those special tall black leather boots." (or something to that effect) The old couple we were passing looked startled, then I saw where we were entering the mall...right beside the Fredricks of Hollywood outlet hehehehhe

ETA: I was on the phone with my friend (when they still were in the living room and had cords) and told my friend "I'll jump on him bareback, and ride him all day and not be a bit sore!" My Dad asked me to get off the phone. I did. He started unloading on me about my conduct and that I was 17 and not mature enough to even think of talking like that BLAH BLAH BLAH It was all good till I started laughing and couldn't explain what I actually meant.

Oh goodness leg position is always a fun topic...as well as posting. Once my cousins fiancÚ asked me what I did for exercise I said "I ride"'she looked at me blankly and said in very hopeful and awkward voice "you ride?...like horses...." I quickly assured her that yes I rode horses.
