Question Is that the normal price for hay??

When our neighbor buys hay, we pay for 1/4th of it, for our horse. He told us we owed him 1000$ for the years worth of hay, so the FULL cost was 4000$. Does that seem like a high price? (fyi~~ there are 3 standard-breds and 1 Shetland)

That's impossible for any of us to say. Not only do hay prices vary SIGNIFICANTLY from one location to the next, you didn't give us any indication of type of hay or quantity which makes a huge price difference.

Ask for a copy of the invoice, then call the original seller to verify.

Well I pay 1.50PB for my hay. But my acquaintance across the province pays 1.00PB for her hay. You didnt give us any information on where you are at, so we can't give you any answers. Even so, as another post said, we have no idea the quality of the hay.

^^This. Because there are so many variables in location, type of hay, quality of hay, what the price per ton is, whether there was a bulk discount, how much shipping costs up there, etc, we have no way to know if that seems correct or not.

Like Joe said, if you don't trust that you are getting the truth, I would ask to see the receipt/invoice from the seller/shipper.

I'm in process of buying hay for my bunch. So far, I'm looking at right around $3,000 US to hay 10 horses through the winter, til first cutting next year. That should equal out to roughly 25 T of excellent quality, very few weeds, prairie grass hay.

We paid $3000 for 600 - 2nd Cutting Alfalfa Hay this year. Small square bales (60-80 pounds) $5.00 per bale.

    We have 5 horses (4 adults, 1 - 5 month old)
