Well, I own a Quarter Horse gelding and at the start of the year myself and my mum moved away from his old paddock mates and so now he doesn't get near as much work as he used to. During this time he managed to get a horrible case of rain scouring and so he dropped a fair amount of weight. I'm not to worried about that, he's slowly starting to gain it now its warming up a bit.

But he lost all the muscle on his bum, and being a QH he had packed it on with all the work. Now his bum's all skinny and ew :P

How can I build this muscle back up? Any ideas?

Remember I don't have hills and whatnot to canter up, I have a big paddock with long grass and a few areas of workable ground.

Cavaletti's are great :) I used them with my OTTB and have found amazing results. Also I found using trot and canter polls did well for us. It got him too track up under himself and USE his bum which resulted in building muscle. Also is it possible to get out a bit and use hills at a local cross country course ir something?

Jogging helped my horse when I first got her. Building muscle was my first priority b/c she hadn't been ridden in two years. We went jogging every day, up hills at all gaits, jumped over logs etc. I basically set up a 'cross country' course that we did, first walking then jogging, then I rode her on it at a canter and gallop.
