    Oh how I wish...

So my friend that I used to work for exercising her horses just texted me. She is giving away her thoroughbred gelding, Compton. She bought Compton from a "rescue" (read "dealer") as a 7yo OTTB a few years ago. He was severely underweight, stuck in a 12'x12' stall seven days a week with no turnout and just looked pathetic. The guy leased the barn my friend was going to be taking over and had about 10 OTTBs. All were in the same awful state. The guy was feeding them one small flake of grass hay twice a day and most of the hay was moldy. Anyway, my friend bought Compton as a horse for her boyfriend. We retrained him from the ground up (he hadn't been touched really since coming off the track two years before) and turned him into a solid riding horse, but her boyfriend never rode him.

My friend and her boyfriend split up over a year ago and my friend recently moved and became engaged. Apparently she has decided that she doesn't have the time Compton deserves or the money to continue to have a horse she doesn't ride. So, she offered him to me for free, knowing how much I've always loved him. You have no idea how much I wish we could afford another horse right now! Compton would be perfect for my boyfriend. *sigh* Hopefully someday I'll find another Compton.

Sorry, just needed to vent/get this off my chest.

I have pics of Compton, but can't post them from my phone. He's a 16hh brown TB with a wide white blaze and he's built like a tank.

If my boyfriend got paid for his job (he runs a vending machine business for his mom), I definitely could. As it stands, I'm paying most of our bills, plus board on Aires, my truck payment and my insurance.

I hope Compton goes to an amazing home!
He sounds like such a handsome boy and I'm sure someone will love him to pieces.

I'm going to ask my friend how soon she needs to find him a home. My boyfriend is looking for a job (LONG story there) and I'm also looking for a better job. Hopefully we can make everything work.

Maybe you could throw your friend a few bucks a month to help out with his costs, until you can afford him fully.

AlexS, that's a good idea. I also have a friend at work that wanted to do a half-lease on Aires. I wonder if he'd be interested in leasing Compton instead.
