My girl is 28 and probably my favorite thing everrrr.
All my friends joke that she's a unicorn, and really, she could be a unicorn.
She loves loves loves kids, the smaller the better, and she's excruciatingly gentle with them, which really amazing since she's also mostly blind.
I teach little kids how to ride on her which is great for both of us since it gets me enough $ to pay for all her expenses and she gets to have "kid time".
She's also super sassy and will pull tricks if she thinks you can handle it, but never if she senses that you're nervous/off balance/whatever. She has an impeccable perception for what's going on within someone. I can basically tell what's going on with each one of my lesson kids after watching them ride her, based solely on her behavior.
I really just cannot describe how cool this horse is.
In the 4 years I've owned her, one person has fallen off her, once. I've never fallen off. She seems to take people falling off as a personal affront and refuses to allow it.
For instance, one time, a few years ago, I was riding her bareback (important detail = she had a roached mane at the time) with just a halter and lead rope - neck reining one direction, direct reining the other. We were going along and suddenly a deep (2-3ft deep) ditch appear in front of us. I urged her over it but she misjudged the width of the ditch, and "fell" in. Her butt was in the air, one front leg was down in the ditch, the other was bent underneath her, I saw the ground coming up and prepared myself to eat dirt.
SUDDENLY, I was thrown up in the air and was again squared over Lacey's back with a painfully throbbing thigh+calf, but I was on her back.
I have absolutely NO idea HOW she did it, but she managed to get me back on her back, and herself out of that hole, after I had fallen off her back so far that I had a bruise on my calf from her withers.
That's one ride I wish I had been videotaping!!
She's just incredible. I would not trade her for the whole world.
She has her faults but when I need her to be a beast, she's a beast. She means the world to me.
