Open "Stable" ideas

I talked to the BO and she thought it was a great idea!!! I would be a TON of work, getting the arena and everything else looking good, but I think we all could do it.

What are things we can do? Both free and charged...I want some free stuff, so people who are interested won't think we are just doing this for money, but also it would be good for the BO to earn some extra money.

Free:
Tours of the stables
Pictures with horses

Charging:
Pony rides

Should we charge for the demonstrations? I thought it would be nice to charge, but I also think it wouldn't be a good idea.
Also for the demonstratons or whatever they should be called here's what we had planned...but what else could we include:
Jumping
Barrel Racing
Dressage

We are going to try to get some raffles...I'm going to try to get some gift certificates, and other stuff...hopefully they might donate them....but I doubt it so we'd all chip in and help buy them.

Also we'd have snacks...nothing huge or that would take a long time to prepare...what else that we wouldn't have to cook could we get...we will get
Chips
Apple Cider Doughnuts
Cookies
Pretzels
Fruit (Apples, pears, banannas, etc)

And of course we will have drinks.

Any ideas?
Also how much should we pay for the pony rides? I'd say 2 times around the huge arena, but I don't want something overly expensive...not as expensive as the pathetic pony rides at the fairs, but not really cheap. I was thinking of $1-$2 but I don't know.

Also, would it best to just use the pony? Or would you think it would be alright to use the horses also? Of course if there's a little little little kid, we'd use the pony...but there's only one pony there and he's kinda old and not too strong so he couldn't hold an 8 year old or anything.

We'd of course have it sometime in the summer when the weather is supposed to be good. And if it does happen to rain I want to be able to move everything inside. I was planning on having the snack/drink section in a stall...that way we wouldn't be outside, and we could keep all our stuff in one contained room....good idea or bad one?

For the demonstrations - I wouldn't charge, you want to advertise your barn and how well you guys ride! I personally wouldn't pay to see a demo - not saying anything against you guys, just in general.

Another idea:

Do a quadrille pattern!! Get 4-6-8 of your better riders, and do a mirrored pattern - I think this looks wonderful when it's done well.. I'll post a video of what I mean in a minute!

we were thinking of that, but the problem is that we'd have part of the arena fenced off (it's in indoor arena) so the people could watch inside and sit down.
We might be able to fit 4...but I don't think anymore.

Yeah that's what I was thinking...we wouldn't get too many people paying and I didn't think it was a good idea after I thought about it. So we definitely won't be charging for the demonstrations.

Didnt you post about this in another section of the forum? Maybe it was someone else.

Anyways I had posted tho ideas. One of the old barns I went to had some demos as well as food and more demos. It's a great way of advertising and getting more clients as well as getting some good outside vies from outside boarders.

Good Luck.

Another good idea for the pony rides is if someone had one of those older camera's when you took a picture of the kid on the horse and it popped out the bottom of the camera (as like a free gift or small charge with the pony rides).

If its nice outside where you live, an arts & crafts table or bake sale (members of the barn brought in baked goods to sell) table might be fun. A costume parade for the horses and riders would be really fun too, and someone could judge the best horse & rider combo for some sort of prize. Just some idea's, it sounds like a really fun idea!

A Polaroid camera. Am I getting old that I know the name of it/remember using one?
