I am interested in buying a dressage saddle. Today I had the saddle fitter come out and look at my mare. She has very high withers and lacks good top line muscles. (I'm working on it lol) Anyway, because of her age (she's 12) the fitter told me she will never gain the muscles she would of had at a younger age. The guy put several different types of saddles on her to see what brand fit her best. He told me I basically only have one choice because of her body type and that it would still have to be custom made to fit her if I decided to buy it.

I already have a multi purpose saddle that works fine. (I had it sent off to get fitted today)

So here's the big dilemma I have. The saddle costs a lot. I have the money BUT I was planning on putting it towards shipping my horse back to the states in about a year. ( I live in Germany. I'm a military brat.) This would set me back a lot if I did buy it but I am really interested in dressage now.

I was wondering if any of you guys had any thoughts on rather if it would be worth buying a dressage saddle or not. I realize ultimately it is my choice but I just wanted to hear some one else's opinion.

Well, my primary focus would be ensuring I would have the finances to ship the horse. After all, what good is a saddle made to fit the horse if you get to the end of your tour in Germany and can't afford to take the horse that fits the saddle? Would the set-back of the saddle put shipping in jeopardy?
