Do you mean if you ONLY register with the Miniature Horse Society?

I'm sorry to sound rude but...is the mini horse society that stupid or would the owner AGAIN be LYING? To my (limited) knowledge Shetlands are a bit taller then minis right? So would you send in a fake height?

I guess I should stop answering because my answer will always be NO and gesh people be honest!

I have no idea how registration in the UK works. I would imagine if it's not legal to double register them, then people wouldn't be doing it.

I have no dog (or pony) in this fight, but I do wonder why you've brought this up on a BB not dedicated to Shetlands, since it seems to be a big deal to you.

Shetlands can be anything under 42". And I am meaning being double registered. If they had it doubbled registered would theh have to stick to shetland pony stud book society standards?

How would we know? We don't breed Shetlands, nor do we live in the UK.

Why don't you ask actual Shetland owners/breeders instead of us?

OP said this was a debate from a Shetland board...so those people I'm sure have answered as well...

I agree though, there aren't too many posters from the UK here and they don't all own Shetlands. Maybe if this was moved to the horse breeds section under a different title?

I am asking on here because I am pretty sure that there people on here that have shetlands or Mini horses.
Plus you don't nead to own a shetland or a mini horse to have an opinion.

No, but it helps if someone has an informed opinion. To have an opinion based on nothing but supposition, inaccurate information, and emotion is completely moronic.

After doing some research, I found that this is apparently a very hot topic among the mini breeders of the world. It's not likely to be resolved any time soon, and certainly not by people who have no interest in whether or not a Shetland is a pony, a mini, or both.

'Many of the miniature registries allow cross-registration with other horse registries. Some USA miniature horses can be cross-registered as Shetland Ponies, Miniature Ponies, Falabella or Miniature Toy Horses. Miniature horses can also be cross-registered with color registries and become registered Appaloosa, Sabino or Paint horses.'

So to answer your question, it depends on the registries you're dealing with whether or not your Shetland can be double registered.
