I've been thinking alot about what to do with my horses, I have 3 horses but I keep holding out for that one horse who will take me as far as it can. Brady is turning 16 years old, he's a great barrel horse but at 16 he's pretty much reached his full potential. Which is a 1D/2D horse (1D is the fastest horses, 2D is a second or half second off the fastest) I love him, but he's an anybodys horse kinda horse. He likes everyone, it's not the greatest bond in the world. Eightysix is a 3 year old grade horse, unknown breed. He's just now cantering the barrels, and he's good but I don't think he's going to keep up with the horses around here. Around here the competition has been compared to be the same as at the high level rodeos. He's going to mature around 14.1-14.2, he'd make a great kids horse with more time. He's laid back as can be and has only ever bucked once with a rider, awesome going little horse. I think that was my grandpa whose the half owner of him planned on anyway, he always mentioned how he's brought him up to be a kids horse. My last horse is my mare, a 2D horse who has ran in the 1D and won it before. Never selling her, have had her for 8 years.
so for options...
A) keep the 3 of them and sell what happens
B) keep Patty (mare) and Eightysix, sell Brady or let my mom have him back (she doesn't want to sell him)
C) keep Patty, sell both geldings. Buy a 2 year old filly who I think has poetential and concentrate on showing and riding Patty while I bring my filly up. I would have over a year of just riding and showing Patty.

I'm a bit fed up with having 3 horses also

*congrats if you made it all the way through*

First of all, 3 horses is A LOT. I'm not sure how much time you have (if you are in school or work), but I have 2 horses and they take my almost all free time.

If you are unsure whether to keep them or not, I'd say 3) : sell geldings in great homes and get the horse with the potential.

I would sell both geldings. Its hard to keep your focus when you have different horses running. Focus on your mare and bring a new youngster along.

While I am sure your geldings are great horses and would probably be amazing lower level competitors, its obvious that you have a bond with the mare.

yes, 3 horses is more than I like. I did fine with 2, I liked having 2 horses.plus only having 2 horses would let me actually be able to ride other people's horses and make money when i get offered it. And I can't sell my mare, like you said I'm bonded to her, hard to sell a horse that will do anything for you. even if she is a witch lol. This is the filly I want, I like her build and her breeding.
Gorgeous and Versatile!

3 horses is one too many id say if you really want to excel on one or two of them, this is just my opinion if you thought about selling one id sell the 16 year old. He seems he could make another person happy and give you more time to work with your other two have fun working with them goodluck:)
