OTT Thoroughbreds anyone?

    Bourbon is an OTTB. He raced 4 times, won once, but he is super super lazy. Our current issue is picking up his right lead, but it's getting much better.

    Puck had a fairly successful racing career before he was retired. He is an absolute doll. Best mind on a horse ever. He does have the occasional "moment" when he sees a deer in the woods or feels the wind blow up his skirt on a cold day, but what amazes me about him and TB's in general, is how hard they try to do the right thing. Even when he's ready to burst out of his skin, he still tries to keep himself together for me. That being said, TB's need leadership. They need to know you have their backs. In return, they will walk through fire for you.

    i love this! That's exactly how I feel about my ottb. He was *thinks* 5 years off the track when I got him so I have no idea what he was like with his retraining but seriously, if that horse trusts you and has faith in your leadership, he will take care of you like no other. It seems a lot of TBs are that way and I feel lucky to have mine. :)

    I work at a barn as an assistant and we have a thoroughbred he's 17 years old. Yes,hes an OTTB and they can't seem to come across why. But since he has been on the track he gets hurt very often somehow, he is super duper extremely spooky. The littlest things worry him such as a person walking by etc. Extreme sweetheart!I love OTTb's he recently had a tongue injury. No clue how but he happened to get an extreme hole of dead skin underneath and the tip of his tongue was dead tissue and he bit it off. Yeah quite interesting?> We deal with all of these issues everyday. He's is spoiled rotten!! Lol :) The spookyiness we just deal with by limiting people around him and or who handle him etc.

    This is so relevant to OTTB's I know of! As I was explaining in a post earlier, he always trys to do the right thing! We've been treating him for a tongue issue recently and he gets annoyed with poking him for his medicine injections but he knows when your trying to take care of him he's a sweetheart to no end! :)
