Our story REVISED

There once was a foal born on March 5th, 1994 in Washington, Pennsylvania. He was bay with a little star and a sock on his left hind leg. He was beautiful. He had excellent bloodlines and would later prove their worth on the racetrack. A month later a baby girl was born in the state of Maine. Who knew that their lives would ever collide. The foal grew up into a handsome horse and was sold to Maine to be a racehorse. He won a lot of races and won a lot of money. The little girl had a less fortunate childhood. She was abused, mistreated, and misunderstood.

One summer the little girl took up riding lessons and met a horse that would change her life forever and be her best friend. She was a standardbred mare in her twenties and was one of the sweetest, gentlest, and most reliable horses. When the little girl got upset or lonely, she would take the old mare out, brush her, hug her, and talk to her. Later on the girl got a little miniature mare who was just about as broken as she was inside. They worked together and started to heal each other's hearts. Then came the day when the girl's world was shattered. Things in her personal life spiraled downwards and not only that but she found out that the old mare passed away.

She needed a horse to ride. Not just any horse but a standardbred. Finally after searching for one, she found one. Not only that but she found one born the same year as her. His name was Western Comet. They did everything together. They loved each other dearly and were best friends. She took him on countless mind soothing rides and he was there when she needed to run away and cry. He always looked out for her and knew exactly how to cheer her up when she was sad. 2 other equines had came and left but Comet always stayed.

They had a fabulous 6 years together. Then one day Comet's past on the racetrack came back to haunt him. His old injury started bothering him more and more. The girl decided that Comet needed to retire and that she needed to find another horse to ride. So she did. She bought a breathtaking 6 year old that had been rescued from Colorado from going to a Mexico slaughterhouse. Comet hated him and ran until he couldn't anymore after the new horse. He was broken hearted and his physical pain got worse. She knew goodbye was imminent.

She marked out a grave under a tree by the pasture with tears in her eyes and a knot in her throat, a final resting place for Comet, who would soon lay there. She made plans to have him humanely euthanized. She notified the people who knew Comet and gave them the news and offered for them to come say goodbye. One of them begged her to not go through with the plans and offered to take Comet. It was better than saying goodbye forever but the girl still questioned whether it would really be the best thing for Comet. She finally agreed and Comet went on his way.

After a couple days the girl really felt the emptiness that Comet had left when he went away. She rejected the new horse and didn't give him a chance. He would never take Comet's place or ever be like him and it broke her heart to pieces. Her and the new horse clashed and were not happy. She tried to change him into something he wasn't but the horse refused. She decided that maybe she needed something like Comet to help fill the hole in her heart. Still determined, she kept the new horse and went on a search for a standardbred again.

Finally she found one and had him delivered sight unseen. She had no idea what she was in for. One day when she got home, the horse had been delivered. He was very skinny, nervous, and tired. She walked up to him for the first time and he threw his head into her arms. It is like he knew he was home. She could see in his eyes that he was relieved to be away from the city and away from his old life.

Later on, she went online to see what this horse was, where he had been, and what his story was. He was born, raised, and raced in California. As a four year old he was sold to his owners in Maine for $100,000. He was a fast and successful horse. Then a miracle was revealed to her. She looked at the horse's birth date and it was the exact opposite of Comet's. She knew then that it was meant to be.

She helped the horse back to health and broke him to ride. She opened her heart to the other horse and became best friends with him as well. The girl has never been happier in her life and wouldn't trade it for the world. Even Comet is in a happy home and has moved on in a new chapter of his life. She will always love him and will never forget him but she now has Ruby, Apollo, Harley, and Shasta in her heart, too. Just because life turns to a new chapter doesn't mean its over.

Thanks! Didn't really feel like I needed to revise it but people were picking it apart. The horses' photos are in order. I got Harley after Comet. I technically had a mule before I got Harley but I sold him because he was a jerk to say the very very least

I commented on the other thread but I'll say it again here, this is a lovely story and I'm so glad that you've had horses to help you with the troubles you've experienced in your life.
