My dad is the BIGGEST horse breed racist ever! Him and I fight constantly about this.

"You want a QH because they can go fast and you want to go fast, what else would you do with a horse? Drafts can't move out and would be awful to ride. You can't get a Haflinger because they can't trot and you can't get a gaited horse because they can't jump. You can't get a thoroughbred because they are too fast. Don't you want a paint? That's a good horse!"

I don't have an issue with people not liking certain breeds, whatever their reasoning is, however, I do find it rude to push their opinion, or constantly bring up negatives to owners of the breed they happen not to like.

I'm in QH country, I ride on a drill team where the majority dislike apps and arabians. Personally I ride what I like, their opinions don't affect me, I happen to like a Paint! Although I was very close to buying an arabian (that I would have proudly ridden on the team), but he was sold before I could get things worked out. I do own an arabian, well I bought one for my nephew, and she's a wonderful little mare! And I did have one team member make some comments, I took them as just picking, all in good fun and wasn't the least bit offended.

I was suprised to see a new team member on a big palomino appaloosa! So far I have not heard any negatives said to, or about him (although there was some app bashing at a meeting we had before this guy joined). However, when I rode with them previously (several years ago, different people) we had a guy join with an appy, and they had nothing but negatives, in this case the horse was a kicker and not really suitable for the team, the guy ended up getting a QH (imagine that). I was a kid at the time, and don't know how realistic my view was, but I'd say he was close to bullied into trading in his app for a QH.

Well that was rambly, I guess my point, nothing wrong with loving, or even hating a breed, but don't try to shove your opinions down anyone else's throats, and don't badger someone because they happen to own and/or love a breed you do not.

It's not that someone has a "breed preference", or that someone likes only one breed and only that breed. Typically I find people like that also tend to like to put down other breeds, and that is just plan rude and annoying, and just shows how narrow-minded those folks are. I think perhaps that was what the OP meant, at least that is how I interpreted it... that those people basically put down other breeds and are just generally annoying about it.

I think OP was referring not to 'Oh, I don't like the looks of a qh so I'll get an Arab' mentality, but more to that 'Your horse needs some vitamin B- bullets' or 'Do yourself a favor- kill yourself before your horse does' That I've heard directed to Arab owners near me.

On the flip side, we also had somebody recently buy a 2yo Tb, immediately jump on it's back, and immediately sell it when she was bucked off. Her reasoning? 'They race them at 2yo so he must have been already broken.' And this wasn't a teenager. It was a 30yo with husband and kids.
