    When it comes to mtn lion, the three S rule applies....... Shoot, Shovel, and Shut up.

    Unless it's changed and I'm unaware of it, mtn lion, cougers (same difference) are protected making it illegal to shoot them. So when you do to protect yourself and/or stock, don't say a word.. just bury them.

    Yes there were big cats released some time back.. tis true

    That would vary from state to state but most states have a cougar season. They are not on any federal list of protected species. They are plentiful, dangerous and tasty so don't hesitate to blast one and call the department in your state that deals with them. Now wolves are a different thing entirely those you use the three S's for.
