our 29+ year old QH gelding (whom we've owned almost 1 year) has been battleing chronic founder compounded by a bad mechanical founder just before we got him, for quite some time. His coffin bone is entirely torn free and "floating". After abcess after abcess, lots of lost weight, and increasingly bad arthritis in his 3 "good" legs from compensating for the bad one, we've decided it is time to let him rest.
His spirits are still good, his appetite is healthy, and he loves his pets and scratches and grooming- so it's hard to just give up! He's been on lots of Bute and then Banamine, as it seemed to give a bit more relief, for the last few days.
It is a tough choice to let him go, and my kids are SOO sad, but it is the right choice. . . So please send kind thoughts for my old "Macho".
Thanks!
