I am looking at this horse to buy. Do you think she could be a good jumper? She is 14.1 hands, has an extended trot, a quarter horse, athletic, 12 yeas old, and has jumped over logs on a trails.
What do you mean by 'good jumper'? Almost any horse (with no severe conformation faults) can jump about 3ft. fences. How high would you like to go with him? Do you have any other pictures?
The angle at which the photo was taken isn't perfect for judging, but he seems like a decent horse. Probably not national level, though. I would go and try him a couple times, perhaps go over some jumps too. It would be good if someone could video you riding him, so you can see how he jumps later.
I use to show jump and Pony Club event the first QH imported into the UK.
He loved jumping right from when he was a yearling, he would pop from one field to another and of he was turned out in a field with fences in it he would spend hours jumping them back and forth.
QHs have the power from behind to jump the big downer is that they often have small feet which is not good for the concussion.
Not all Qhs have small feet. Most that I see are specifically halter bred. My son rides a QH pony (14 hands) that can jump the moon. He's really powerful. He'd never make it at top levels as his size, competing against a larger horse with the same talent, would be a big disadvantage but for what we do he's awesome.
Depends what you mean by jumper. QH can jump, the Australian six bar champion a while back was a QH and our entrant to the Olympics last was a QH cross. So I wouldn't discount the breed.
However, if you want a horse for jumping then get one that is jumping. Getting a 14hh 12 year old who hasn't done jumping is not really the best way. Show jumping courses are built for bigger horses too.
He will probably pop over jumps alright but I doubt he will ever be competitive.
To have a good jumper, you usually need a horse with a strong back end. Of course, most horses can be small jumps like the others said but, depending on what you're looking for, find a strong butt lol
My friend just competed a Training Level event with her QH pony. He's probably 14 something hands. Anything is possible if there are no medical issues, and if the correct training and conditioning is done. You never know. Posted via Mobile Device
