My SO and I have plans to move off Long Island and down to PA in the near future, 2-4 years, depending on a couple different factors. Our plan was to move out to the Allentown area (I have a good friend there), settle in, and then look for horse property.
Well, you know life always had a way of tossing in a monkey wrench! Nothing ever goes by your timeline.
A friend of my best friend of mine is selling her BEAUTIFUL horse property. I kept my horse there a few years ago when I could afford to keep her by me, so she is an acquaintance of mine too. The house is nice, 3 br (maybe 4), 3 bath, finished basement, garage, detached garage. The barn has 4 or 5 regular stalls, one foaling stall that can be used as an in and out, an indoor wash rack, huge hay loft with normal stairs, huge riding arena, and across the street there is 7-10 acres of pasture! I guesstimate the property, in total, is about 11-15 acres in size. The location is far enough away for it to be QUIET and peaceful, but close enough to all of our necessary emenities! School district and neighbor are good from what I've read. I think next weekend we are going to go down and really scope out the area!
Of course this point is pretty null as of right now, but my best friend would likely move with us with her horse and help with taking care of the barn and chores. In the future we may sell and acre or two to her for her own place. But that's neither here nor there.
So would I be odd for me to approach her about buying the house from her? Would that be too forward? I seem to be getting mixed reviews and whether to be more forward and ask and sit back and wait for her. Also, I don't want to be hanging on a dream only to find out that she's asking to much or has other plans. Ideally I'd love to sit down and ask her what she wants for the place so we can set a plan, start looking at job possibilities, etc!
So, what would you do?
