So I'm going to look at a horse tomorrow for the first time in 8 years.. The last time I did this it didn't end well, and now I'm stuck with a 20 year old horse that I don't trust. But I've been talking with my grandmother, who was the one who bought my last horse and she said it's okay if I want to buy another one, using my own money of course. Basically, we kind of got tricked into buying my last horse, I was only 11 and knew very little, and she knew even less.
Anyways, this time I've definitely been doing my homework and I've looked at a lot of different horses online and I've found one that I really like.. I just want a horse that I can kind of do anything with, trail riding/pasture riding and one that is calm and obedient and that I feel safe on. Basically the exact opposite of my stubborn old man :) I'm just super nervous about it.. Not that i'm scared of horses, I've slowly gotten over that over the past 6 months because I've been exercising a lady's horses for her a couple day a week, and she has some really great horses that I trust, even though some of them have their little vices (one has a tendency to spook more than the others). It took me a while, but I finally got back to where I was before. (I took lessons for about 6 years when I was a kid and rode on my own for about 5 years after that) So I can definitely ride, it just took a while for me to get my confidence back after not riding for 2 years because of my current horse.
I'm taking the lady I work for with me, because she's definitely more knowledgeable about buying horses than I am, she knows how I ride/what I'm looking for, and she's very honest . I'm just so worried that I'm going to make the same mistake I did before and end up with a horse I can't ride. Although I know so much more than I did back then, I guess it's just that past fear catching up with me. I really like this mare that I'm going to see tomorrow, and I'm super excited, but I really just want to be sure that she's "the one". How did you know your horse was "the one"? What was the deal breaker for you when you bought your horse?
Here's her ad in case you want to look at her :) http://www.valleyviewranch.net/dunitonabar.htm
