Registered VS. Show Names

Good evening all.

I have a quick question I have been meaning to post for weeks now.

I have a foundation QH mare that is crossing over from her western breeding into the eventing world. Her registered AQHA name is Peponitas Reflection, but to me that sounds like what it is - a western QH name.

I was noticing some people use a different name for different disciplines. Do any of you show your horse under their registered name at breed shows, but a different name at other venues? Is it worth it or just more convenient to have ONE name. Any input is welcome.

Have a great night,

Arii

I have never seen anyone use different registered names for different types of events. I have seen people sometimes use the registered name and sometimes use the horses call name.

I've always just used my horse's registered name. Some horses are double registered and may have 2 registered names. Some people just use barn names. Just out of preference I suppose

I don't know anyone who uses a different name. We all use the registered name or just their pet name, nothing else.

I doubt your horse having a western sounding name will affect your placings so I miss why it matters?

I've never seen anyone switch names for different shows. Maybe very small shows (as in 4-H club events and Roundup shows; I'm talking miniscule) they might use the horse's barn name since that's what everybody there knows the horse as anyway, and otherwise use the registered name to show under. I do see quite a few unregistered horses with show names chosen by the owner, and they use the show name the same as the owners of reg. Horses do.

I use Love Story's registered name. But now here's the thing. We have a show on Saturday that we entered for last month, and my friend entered her mare Night Heat, but Night Heat went lame on Monday, so she is being forced to take our pony Damper. But it's too late to change the name, so Damper will be called Night Heat at this show lol

To the people asking "why does it matter"....some people don't care much for the registered names. I said nothing about it affecting placings and never implied it would. Just a simple question. Thank you to all that that offered their opinions.
