I'm not sure if this is the correct place to be asking this - if it isn't please feel free to move it to the correct section.

I have gotten a registered appaloosa stud however I do not have his papers because my FIL who gave him to me never got the papers when he purchased him. I was curious if there was any way to have him registered under my name without knowing his lineage?

Is there a way you could get his registration number cause then usually you can just get his papers that way. Or if the last owner remembers the owners prior to them and you could get a hold of them. I hope this helps some.

I have no way of getting the registration number unless I contact my father-in-law's coworker who was the owner with the registration papers.

I would say try and get a hold of the people who have his papers. Then you can sign him under your name. :) if you can get his registration number that would help you out a lot also so you would know his lineage and progency.

I'll have to do that. I don't really know why my father-in-law didn't get the papers when he bought the horse.

I hope you can get the papers from him. :)

Me too! I really hope the guy isn't a jerk about it.

I hope that he isn't mean about you trying to get the papers, though some people are interesting characters. I don't know much about the Appy world, but I know that you can (and I believe its a requirement in some circumstances) to get a blood test done on Arabians, when you register them, to prove lineage, I'm not sure if you would be able to do something like that. I've been lucky so far, and all the horse's I've had that are registered have all come with their papers. The only horse who's papers I never transferred were my half Arabian/Pinto. He was only registered as a pinto, and it was way to expensive to transfer ownership, so we never did though we had his papers in hand. Hopefully you can get the papers, and congrats on your new horse.

Is it legal to make someone pay for them?
