I just bought an APHA. His papers havent been transfered since 2003, and he has had 3 owners since then. That will be an adventure transferring those. Even though his papers arent in my name I have his bill of sale to me, so that works until we can figure out this paper mess. APHA papers are unique. On the back is a transfer form. Look at it, read it, then call APHA. Good Luck! :)

Update :)

I did buy a registered horse this week, and he is APHA registered.

The seller had his papers from his original owners and they were signed.

BUT.......

They were signed last March.

Does anyone know if that's too long to have them transferred from that date?

We are actually going to bypass the current owner and go right to my name.

Granted my registry knowledge is limited to AMHA, AMHR, AHA and POAC, but I doubt it's different:

There's no time limit to transfer, but often a higher fee after a certain time frame (like 6 months?). Check the website for the registry to find out. With AMHA and AMHR, fees are on a work order form, not sure if APHA is the same though.

I bought an APHA registered horse and the came thing happened to me. The owner I bought my horse from never had the papers tranferred to her name, so when I was registering my horse I had have a transfer summery from the owner I bought my horse from and for myself. There was no time limit because the owner that I bought my horse had my horse for 5 years and so there is no time limit on this.

It is also very helpful to call APHA because they are very knowledgable and were able to talk me through the process. Because this was also my first registered horse and I had no clue what to do.

Thank you!

I called the APHA today and she never did tell me that there wasn't a time limit, but, she was aware of the fact that the sale happened last March.

I am going to be sending them in this week along with $55. The registration went up $5 Jan 1st.

Hopefully I will have filled it out correctly and will get papers back with me as the current owner.
