    Registration question

Ok, so in light of the Doce fire burning not seven miles from my front door and the real possibility last night that we'd have to evacuate the horses as the fire passed even closer to the stable where I board, I've decided that I need some sort of documentation for Aires. I don't have a bill of sale (long story) and I have no vet records with me (the only thing I ever had was the care instructions from when he got gelded and that has long-since been lost through two last-minute moves).

So, I'm trying to figure out what registry I could register him with so that I have some documentation of ownership. He's a Percheron/paint cross. His sire was registered with the APHA (A Little Bit of Black). His dam was registered with the Canadian Percheron Association. Like I said, this is just for proof of ownership, not for showing or anything like that.

    So, any ideas?

At the risk of sounding like a complete moron (we'll blame it on the three hours of sleep I managed to catch last night)...

    A wha? O.o

I know warmbloods get brand inspected, but I've never heard of it for grades...

    Dr. Google gave me this:
Ignorant horse buyer and Brand inspection.

I just had a bill of sale notarized.....40$ for 4 signatures.......

I didn't mean to say you're an ignorant horse buyer lol....but it's explained very nicely in that thread

Didn't think you were implying that at all. Lol

See, as soon as I started reading Delfina's response on that thread I did a major *facepalm* because I know exactly what you're talking about and I even read that freaking thread. Stress, battling with horses and little sleep don't make me the brightest crayon in the box. Lol.

As trailhorserider said in that thread, it's not something that's really done here in Arizona, so I hadn't even thought of it.

    Might be your only option.
Don't know if there are any half paint or half draft registries around. But if so, I think you need proof of the parent.

I think you could register him with the PtHA? I think it's just a color registry, and it helps that his sire was registered APHA, so maybe that would be a good place to start?
    FaydesMom and Cynical25 like this.

    Yearling
My horse has a lifetime brand inspection card with the Colorado State brand inspection AND a freeze brand on her neck, which is registered with a freeze branding company that (I think) is a nationwide thing. She is also registered with the American Warmblood Society (she is Shire-TB X) and has a hip brand from those guys and has a UK horse passport to boot. She's identifiable up the wazoo.

The paperwork for the freeze branding thing is at my parents' house in Colorado. I can ask them to have a look if you think that's a route you might want to go down. The AWS might also be an option for your lad.

PtHA isn't an option because they don't accept draft crosses (or they didn't two years ago when I bought him). They accept gypsy horses, but no other drafts.
