Reiners - sliding plates

When do you put them on and how long do you leave them on?

I thought there were reiners on here?

I was actually wondering the same thing the other day..
I'll ask my buddy that shows them. :p
He should know..and if he doesn't I might be tempted to poke some fun at him, haha.

Yeah! Also do they wear them in the trailer on the way to shows or put on when they get there? I would think that they would slip.

Well..from what my friend told me, he gets them on everytime his farrier comes out for the specific horse. He takes shows off during the winter so he takes their shoes off, and he doesn't shoe them until early spring again, but that doesn't apply to everyone. :p
We are talking about the hind shoes..right? (still learning reining stuff, I've just been trails and games rider) Anywho, if so-his horses have done fine being in them all show season. Fine trailering, fine doing arena work, and I'm pretty sure he does trails too.

We've always put them on when they get far enough along in training to work on sliding stops. Once past that point they get put on just before show season starts. Never had problems with trailering, etc. When I was younger I did everything with my reining mare even jumping. Our farrier made her screw in cleats that could be taken on or off her sliders. It was nice because I could still trail ride her also with no worries.

I've heard -

*Put them on prior to a show and then remove them right after. Horses have normal turnout.

*Put them on and then stall 24/7 - so they don't hurt 'other' horses - for the season.

I just can't see the 24/7 stall for months at a time when the horses are now used to 24/7 turnout.
