Looking at netposse today, I was shocked to see someone had the gall to steal 7 horses and in daylight. See below.
This should remind us all, to keep paperwork on our horses and photos. The photos do not have to be conformation shots, but should show all markings and better yet, at least one, with the owner shown in the pics.
Keep the bill of sale or something/anything, to show that you purchased the horse and the name of the person from whom you got it. Date the paperwork.Keep all bills/receipts, connected with each horse you own. You never know when your horse might become missing and you will have to prove you own it.
DO take photos the day you have ownership of the horse.
DON'T put a new horse out in a paddock/pasture by himself when he/she arrives home, without watching for a while. Many horses will try to escape and will jump fences, to try to return to former buddies whom they have now lost. Make sure all fencing is high enough and secure enough, for all horses. Make sure gates are locked. Try to keep horses where they can be seen from your home. Unfortunately, horse stealing is alive and well.
Remember, if you go to see a horse for sale, check with netposse, to make sure it is not stolen.
