rescued two horses... need advice about blanket size

Okay, so these girls are supposedly a little less than 15 hands... haven't seen them yet in person but I want to have some blankets ready for them when I go pick them up. My horse's 78 blankets are clearly not going to fit... so...

Here's the picture :

I want to get them ready for NE weather! Any suggestions?

They def look smaller then 15 hand to me ... but it is a picture so who knows. My 15 hand guy wears a 76 and it is a little big on him but a 74 is too small... here is what he looks like if that helps

Sorry to double post I didn't answer your question lol ... I would say the one on the right (with head up) would be a 72/74 and the one on the left (head down) a 70/72 ...

How old are they? Cause if they are young it is likely that with the proper feeding they will grow.

Cute pair. My 14.3 mare is in a 76 or 75. But sometimes blankets fit differently so its more then the length. I've bought a 76 fly sheet that was too small and a 74 that was too big.

I wouldnt get a long blanket for either, it could end up going to their knees.

My 14.3 hh arabian wears a 70", but she's fairly stocky/built like a tank. It's kinda hard to tell from the pics though what size(s) would fit 'em...

Maybe you could just measure when you pick them up and stop at the tack shop on the way home? Then it would only take a few minutes to run in and get the proper size and bam, you have fitting blankets when you get home...

I wouln't advise buying before you have them, seems it would just be easier to have an accurate measure so the blanket fits and you don't have to return it or worry about it being too big or small and rubbing withers, shoulders, and hips...

Im no help, but I have to say they are beauties!

I would wait untill you get them. Some 15hh horses will be longer backed then a 16hh horse, or shorter backed then a 14hh pony.
