Retired Mare

We currently own four horses which two are only being used. One is a retired seventeen year old SE Arabian mare and the other is a six year old QH mare that is well broke for trail. I don't want to sell the six year old unless I can place my seventeen year old in a good retirement home as a companion. I don't want to have her alone all of the time when we ride/camp. But it isn't fair to the six year old to not be worked as much as she should. I have owned both since weanlings. What to do what to do what to do.......

Hi

Sorry but am a little confused - I read it as the two horses being used are the retired mare and the 6 year old? Wouldnt the older mare still have the company of one other horse while you are away?

It can be hard finding good homes for retired horses and even harder when you have owned them for a long time and feel that they deserve a decent retirement.

Sorry I mean the Arab and the six year old are not being used. I know I could sell the six year old but if I can't place my Arab she will be left alone quite a bit, don't really want that. Just a little frustrated as to what to do.

Get a companion mini for the retired mare? I'm sure the 6 year old feels fine serving as babysitter but if you want to work him, then work him.
