Ride For Life - Sponsors???

Ok so Dartanion & I are going to participate in our local Ride for Life cancer fund rasier delio. Now we don't have to but we are asking to try and get at least a $100.00 sponsorship. I would love to try and get more than this but my main issue is I haven't ever really asked anyone to sponsore me before. Can anyone give me any tips/ideas?
Does it matter what I wear? IE:Jeans & a t-shirt?
If I went to say Tractor Supply? do I ask to speak to the manager? or would I have to talk to someone 'higher' on the food chaine. I feel a little weird asking for money because I don't want people to think I am going to run away with it and I also don't want to make them feel like bad people if they can not donate anything. Since this is our first year I am setting the goal of raising $100.00 I really want to raise more than that but better start off at a reasonable area right?
thnx everyone!

I've done Relay for Life, and I just got donations from family/friends and I managed to raise close to $100.
If you went to a store to ask, first of all you should find out whether the store is independently owned or part of a chain. If it's part of a chain, you probably won't get anything. I used to work in an independently owned grocery store and when people came in for donations/etc we'd get the owner if he was there, if not our manager would take the request and pass it on.

How did you get involved with the ride for life? My BO mentioned something about that and I would love to know how to get started ...

92.00, that is awesome! Good Luck , you seem like you are off to a great start!

Horses and children, I often think, have a lot of the good sense there is in the world.

I googled HERO since I saw it on the Facebook Relay for life site. You can email Diana LaCount at herorideforlife@gmail.com she was able to provide me with the contact information I needed to get signed up . You can start a team of 4(5?)-8 people or join a team. This is my first year doing it so I am still learning. Locally you don't have to raise any money unless you want to and I have just learnt they give out a buckle to the individual who raises the most money and the team who raises the most money wins saddle pads and the reserve team gets halters. I'm very excited about it this year! I hope this helped you

A little discouraged since I didn't get any sponsors today :(. I know I won't have a successful day everyday but I was pretty hopeful all the nail salon women seemed very angry lol.

Im doing the same thing as you but for a slightly different cause. I already got my sponser from a small store. I do have a suggestion though, jars. Some small buisnesses will be willing to put out jars for donations for your cause for people to drop change in. It works if you can get people to take them and most people will considering how low maintance they are. :)
