riding goals

everybody has to have a goal to work towards, right? ok, here's mine.
Jack spent 60days with a trainer last summer, whom didn't do nearly enought with him. So right now, I am working on filling in holes in ground work & desentising. As well as taking lessons myself, my instructor is giving me weakly goals to work with Jack ( right now on hold due to my injury). Over the late winter/ early spring I am going to bring Jack to her barn for 3-4 months of training. I told her I want a confednet, relaxed trail horse with really good brakes! She said SHOULD be no problem.
My "goal" is this. A really good friend lives 7 miles up the road from my barn. By next summer, I want to be able to ride to her house! Depending on how we both handle the trip, I will either leave him there for the night & ride back the next day or trailer him home.
My family thinks I'm nuts, but I really want to make this happen!

I set myself goals all the time, its like a challenge to myself. I am lucky I have a lovely, well mannered mature little Fell pony mare. But its my confidence that is at issue.Last years goals was to hack out at first in company, then alone and finally along the busyish road outside our field. I did all of these in my own time and by the autumn I could do all three of these goals.
This years goals are to learn to canter, canter in open fields and go hunting this winter and canter along a beach. I have cantered down the long side of my school and yesterday finally cantered about 6 time in a large open field.

I think your own goals are achievable, let us know when you do them

My goal right now is to master my english position, and the sitting/posting trot. Also to do half seat at a walk all the way around the arena. My long term goal is to be able to compete in eventing... But that will be a few years down the road.
Another thing I would love to do is gallop on a beach. I can't wait until I actually have that opportunity!!!

great thread idea. I think your goals are achievable and mirror my own. I would like to get Harry to relax and be able to go on solo trail rides. I would also like a bomber stop and back up. This should clearly go before the solo ride. Its going to take time it might be a two year project. For Mr. Vacation, I would like him to build muscle and having him have a smooth corners at the trot.

My goal right now is to get in the saddle and move my horse forward without having a panic attack.
