Riding pants

I have always been curious, what are breeches like to wear riding? Typically in the cooler weather I wear jeans. When it's hot I'll just wear some yoga pants or other type of lycra pants typically used for working out. I've never worn breeches though, and I don't know anyone who does. I have thought about getting a pair to try out to possibly ride in this summer. It just seems like they would be cooler than jeans yet more protective than yoga pants. Also, if I were to get a pair, what qualities do I need to look for? I really don't know anything about them at all.

They are one of the most amazing things ever:) but get good quality ones! I personally like the low rise but that is personal preference. Also, choose between full seat or knee patches. Full seat can be stickier and help you stick to the saddle but they don't make that much of a difference. There are lots of things to consider, but I prefer kerrits and tuffriders. They are extremely comfortable and the patches/full seat keep the leathers from pinching you. Try 'em!

I love riding in breeches, best things invented. I do wear jeans meant for riding when I ride western, but to tell you the truth, I still like the breeches better. I have thicker lined ones for colder weather and lighter ones for warmer weather, I have tried just about every brand except the very expensive ones, they all feel the same to me, it's just how they look and hold up to wear that I find different.

Love mine over anything else. I'm always the one in breeches, 1/2 chaps and a western saddle. Unless I'm whipping out the dressage rig fir some arena work.

Even a fat chick like me likes my breeches. I know they show off my rear end more (much to my embarassment), but I like the supporting feel they have, and no inseam under my thigh. Once I am in the saddle, I never think about them. They are like a second skin.

Green Broke
My GF was a jeans all the way girl never rode in anything different. They were fine. She also doesnt like the english look and tends to ride in western boots.
I bought her a pair of Kerrits and a pair of Irideon boot cut tights and she was amazed and wont wear anything else now.
I was the same way saddlebum mens tights are great. Id like some breeches that come to the ankle but there are none for men. I do wear baseball uniform pants on casual rides though. They are ok.

If you want something that has a cuff and comes to the ankle, look at jodhpurs. I prefer jods over breeches, and they're made with the same materials. Since I tend to ride in paddock boots without half chaps, I much prefer jods.

Speed Racer, that shows my ignorance right there...I thought breeches and jodhpurs were the same thing. I just wasn't sure how to spell jodhpurs so used breeches instead, lol.

I normally ride western, but my newer horse I ride in a dressage saddle. The seam on my jeans is uncomfortable and I feel like I'm wearing the yoga pants out...plus they still pinch a little. I think I'm sold on wanting a pair to try out. Now I won't sound completely ignorant when I go into the shop looking for a pair. Thanks for the input everyone!

I was just in my local Greenhawk this afternoon to check out their stock. The one pair I have now, I bought on sale years ago and they're about done. I was pleased to find that besides the ~$150 show breeches, they offer what I'd refer to as hacking or beater breeches for a price point of about $40. Right up my alley, as we tackle intense bush trails and often encounter water. I'd be freaking about ruining $150! Whew.
