Default Saphira and Selene

So, I just purchased the second of two 4 year old Arabian mares, and I wanted to share. Her name is Alada Dreme V.S. (reg. pending), know as Saphira around the barn. The owner had an extensive breeding program, and the two mares I have are two of the last group of horses the owner was keeping as she wasn't sure what she wanted to do with them since they are the best of her program. Long story short, trainer left, and owner was left with all her horses, last foal crop, and broodmares, and has slowly been selling off the horses she is willing to part with. So me and my boyfriend got Saphira and her half sister Selene. Saphira is by Alada Baskin I, by Dreame Khatcher, has amazing bloodlines, and is hopefully going to become my sport horse/broodmare, though I am unsure of what to breed her to. Selene is also by Alada Baskin I, am unsure of the name of her dam at the moment, but also extremely well bred. Both have had very little handling, and we do have our work cut out for us, but there is a lot of hope that they will turn into awesome horses. I have attached pictures of the two of them. Saphira is the grey, and Selene is the bay. meandsaphira.jpg

I forgot to mention that Saphira's dams grandsire is Khemosabi, which is awesome because I have wanted a Khemosabi baby for a long time. The ranch I bought the mares from stood Alada Baskin I, Backstreet, and Khemosabi as well as some other stallions I'm sure.

Oh my goodness! I absolutely love Saphira! Selene is beautiful as well. =)

They kinda remind me of my mare and her best friend (when her best friend was alive). They are/were both Arabs, my mare is the gray and her bestie is the bay. Random and funny. Although, your girls are much younger and perkier looking than I ever saw/have seen Lacey (my girl) or Danni looking. Lacey and Danni were more like the old dowagers (Danni was 21 and Lacey is 24). =P

I love the gray!

What farm did you buy them from?

They both came from Rancho Valle Del Sol in California, but the owners retired from Arabians when their trainer left 6 months ago, and took all the horses not personally owned by the owners of the ranch. These guys and a couple other horses the owner still has are the last few left of the ones she owns. She was saving the best horses because she was thinking of maybe trying to keep the breeding going by breeding them.

Ha ha, I just reread my post, and miss worded a few things. Saphira's sire is Alada Baskin I, and her dam is Dreame Khatcher.

So, update, I was able to move Saphira into a paddock yesterday, though unfortunately I have to catch her and move her back again asap, but at least she's had a couple days to run around. Picasa Web Albums - Dustin - Saphira First... these are pictures of her after we turned her out. She's very cute, but I couldn't get very many good pictures as the old mares kept getting in the way. She's out with two older broodmares, probably in their 20's, who are not thrilled about having a 4 year old running around.
