Searching Advice Needed
In this next year I am hoping to acquire yet one more horse :) Yay! But I have run into some problems and just want to throw it out there and see if anyone has some advice for me.
I'm looking for a younger horse (4-8, preferably 6 years old) that is most of all sound of mind. I will be the one responsible for the horse and therefore I'm looking for a horse I will enjoy riding. I jump. So I would like a horse with some kind of an ability. But mostly I'm looking for the brain.
Seems fairly simple right? Not.
I'm on a budget. And I don't mean a 1K budget. I mean like I've got a couple hundred to spend on a horse. I'm having difficulty finding a horse that just strikes my fancy. Or that even falls under these qualifications. My ultimate goal is to have a trail horse. Size isn't that big of an issue because the horse that I have right now is big enough for my dad to ride and I can just hop onto a smaller trail horse.
The reason we are looking is because our older horse is just that. Too old. And trails are just too stressful for him. I'm the only one that is small enough to ride the poor guy and it's just not fun for me anymore. Phantom jumps, hops, rears, and anything else you can think of while on the trail. I need something either my dad can get on and ride or something that I can get on a ride so he can ride my horse. Problem is, I can't seem to find one!
I feel as though I'm not looking in the right spot. I've tried craigslist, but I'm wary of scams and such. Dreamhorse I look at often but there isn't anything new at all.
Does anyone have some tips for me? Wrong time to look? Look at a better site? Any success stories?
Broke (solid w/t/c)
The horse doesn't need to be bombproof yet! I can deal with some goofy (baby) stuff here and there. But I need something that I can comfortably ride without worrying he's going to dump me at any second. Or fight him the whole way.
So any ideas??
