Selling Wiski

Its been a while since I visited the forum. I've recently had to make the very hard decision to sell my horse Wiski. There is a lot of factors that play in, one of them was getting thrown and injured (torn rotator cuff) and some of the others are finances and time. He needs more time than I can dedicate to him at this point.

I thought about doing a lease to this really nice 15 y/o girl but decided instead to put him up for sale. So she immediately said she was interested.

I couldn't believe it! I had so much trouble getting him to listen to me most the time, she got on him the first time she met him and in minutes she had him doing whatever it was she wanted. It's been about a week and she's already got him jumping 2 ft! I started him on jumping a little btw!! Anyways, she said he's perfect so I couldn't find a better family, they take good care of their horses.

I told the girls mother that if she wants to buy him she can just make an offer. SO right now they're paying September's rent on him and they're going to see how he does for a month before they make a decision. But so far the girl looking at him is spending 6 hours a day with him training him and riding him every day. She's doing wonderful so it's no wonder she's having a blast. She says he's really smart and doesn't need much training, seems to know everything already.

So it's my bittersweet news to you all that I am selling my first horse, my first love. He's going to a wonderful 4H show home who will treat him like a king, I couldn't ask for more in this economy. But I will be sorely jealous when I see them competing and see him doing all that stuff I wanted to do with him lol.

I am so sorry that you have to sell him but at least you found him a wonderful home from the sound of it. Maybe you and he just never really fit well together . That's wonderful that she is loving riding him so much. Maybe someday you will find another horse that fits you as well as he does with her.

I'm sorry you have to sell your horse, but it's wonderful that he's going to great home. It sounds like this girl is going to have so much fun with him, you couldn't ask for much more in a home :).

Oh No!! I loved wiski :( but as others said, maybe you two were meant to be in eachothers lives for a short time. Sounds like he's going to a wonderful home, that is so great you were able to find that little girl. Best of luck. <3

I'm sorry you're having to sell Wiski. I always try to remind myself in situations where you have to part with ANY animal, that it's important to do what's best for THEM, and not ourselves. It can be really hard, but it sounds like you are doing exactly that. You will always love him, and he is one of the lucky ones who is going to have so many people love him :)

Dont feel bad, you know they enter our lives for a reason and you know he will have always taught you something. Sometimes the first one just isnt the perfect one, just like dating. I had my first horse for 4 yrs and I did all kind of training for her and to her and we just didnt get along but she was a good girl, I ended up selling her to a really nice 15y/o girl too and they did amazing. But it put me in to place to find the "one" and I did and so it was a good thing. But I will never forget my mare and everything she taught me. So don't be sad be happy he's going to a great home and that you had the time you did with him and what you've learned from him.

I did learn a lot from him. It's a hard decision but I know it's the right thing to do. And on the bright side I get to see him perform in 4H shows and compete! He's already started bonding with this girl, I know that I helped him in so many ways and he's helped me too. It was amazing and good that he and I crossed paths. He will always be my first love.

Sounds like joyful serendipity to me. Your lucky to have found such a great home for him in this market. Be glad for them and remember, your perfect horse is out there waiting for you. You will find him/her someday
