Showing with my new Thoroughbred this year?...

Hi all,
I just recently got a Thoroughbred mare - love her to pieces. <3
And I want to start showing with her this year. I've never been in a horse show before (unless you count my little vaulting show I did when I was 9  ). We do jumpers, H/J and hoping to start eventing.
Got any show advice for us? Or pre show exercises?
Thankks! :D

That's so exciting! Your mare is beautiful - is she off the track? I got my OTTB in January and we've recently started showing. I've taken him to two HTs/events and to one jumper show. He's been very, very good, but here are some things I found quite helpful:
-Having a stall for the horse to stay in
-Taking them for a long walk (either in hand or under saddle) before your class
-Having a trainer there with you
-Maybe having a friend who is more experienced showing with you
-Stay calm, relax, and breathe - remember, this is all for fun! :)
-Don't dwell on any failures - focus on the success. It is important to stay positive and to continue riding to the best of your ability

Have fun and good luck! I'm sure you will love it!

She's gorgeous, I know for a fact that my next horse (although I still don't get my first for two months haha) will be a TB mare.. I love them. :)

My only advice is have fun, and set goals for yourself. I remember my first show with Major and I was so nervous, but we did pretty darn good. :)

She is absolutely stunning, I literally gasped when I clicked this thread!

As for advice, make sure you eat breakfast before the show! Lol, you'll need the energy. Also, I recommend always taking a bottle of water with you and some snacks, just in case there's nowhere to get food/drink at the show. Bigger shows usually have something, but smaller ones may not.

Remember that even if it goes really badly, and you get disqualified in all events or totally lose badly, just remember that it was experience! You'll learn from it. Winning isn't everything, just as long as you and your horse get through it together, you'll have learnt a lot :) Just have fun!

Ahaaa that gorgeous horsey :D Monaco!! She should be a horsey model in the Dover magazines ;)...
You guys are gonna go pro, I feel it :-p She's so dang cutee! how could the judges not place her first?! :-p
My biggest fail when I go to shows (and I really DO NOT recommend doing this): I seriously starve myself the day before the show so I'm so out of nutrients that I feel like I'm going to faint the whole morning when I am grooming and preparing. I just can't, with all my self, eat something the day before a show (which is weird because I always eat! :-p) because of my nerves... The weirdest thing is by the time the show starts, I'm totally calm, cool, and collected and ready to ride & have fun. Then I eat like a horse in between classes.
Moral of the story: Always eat the night before a show. And bring snacks. Lots of them. My mom always makes me homemade granola bars... they are great.
Oh and for your gorgeous horsey, to calm both MY nerves and my horse's nerves, I always lunge and get all the heeby jeebys out so they don't come out during your run/class. :)

Hahaha! :') I agree, she is quite the looker! Thankksss for the tips - i will definitely keep that in mind. Eat. lol! Yuumm, my mom makes homemade granola bars, too, I'll have to bring those to shows. (; And lunging. Good idea. I will most definitely have to do that with Monaco, to settle both our nerves :-p Thaaaanks! :D
