So, What are Your Plans This Summer?

I think it is officially summer for most people. We got out of school Tuesday, and camp starts next week. The days are long and hot, and I got the first serious sunburn of the year! I call it "Lobster Tan". Ow.

Anyways, what are you plans and goals for this summer? Horsewise or otherwise!

Personally, I have several. Of course, there is Crickett, Tiara's colt, to be working with everyday, taking on trail rides, doing things with, ect. Then Tiara is going into a serious fitness program. She is getting very out of shape. We want to do some fun gaming this year, like at the 4-H county show. Every other year, we have gone in the hunt seat division, but, everyone knows that a Haflinger is not a hunt-type horse. We've never done very good, or even had a lot of fun, so this year, we're doing gaming and driving.

I'll be doing more jumping with my mom's horse. We'll be going to more shows this year, and pretty soon Crickett and Tiara can come along. My friend will be working with her new horse.
I'll be taking weekly lessons, and might be able to ride a neighbor's green paint horse a few times. I am hoping to possibly going to do some low level starting events near the fall, and maybe some long distance rides.
So, basically just a summer full of horses. Wonderful!

You?

Try not to die of heat-stroke. Seriously - I HATE Texas summers.

Work, work, work 2 jobs and all my side jobs. I have a cruise coming up in August!

I also want to find a leaser for the TWH I'm training so her owner will have a riding partner and she doesn't have to wait for me to ride every time.

I'd also love to get back to reining lesson, but my trainer hasn't gotten back to me.

Oh yeah, and make money.

It was 113 today. My plan for the summer is just to survive! But in reality, we're still taking it easy. My horse is FINALLY noticeably gaining weight and his top line is even filling out a little bit. I am very, very pleased. I don't want to do anything in this heat that would be too strenuous that would lead to him burning too many calories.

I would like to go on one longer trail ride with some friends. It'll be hard to schedule since we all work full time and only one of us has a trailer, but maybe between now and November we can work it! Only if I keep seeing weight gain though.

Seriously?! 113! It is currently raining and 58 here. The news told me this morning that last year on this day it was 103, seriously depressing.

I had plans to start into endurance with my mare but then she injured her tendon slightly so we are now back to square 1 and starting back from the bottom. So maybe next year but she is 20 already so I might have to seriously consider her possibility for anything more than just a trail horse. She gets a new joint supplement that will come this week so I am hoping that will help.

She turned into a blimp now that she is at her new place. So now we are working on getting her slowly back into shape too.

Yep, 113 I kid you not. Our summers here (northern California) get really hot! I would trade for your rain and 58 any day. I'm a lot more comfortable in those temperatures.
