Solid Book Concept...Now I Need Facts!

Well, I've finally come up with a solid concept for a book or maybe a series involving horses...and it merges the "English" horse with the "Western" a bit...at least in my head.

Can someone please tell me more about the legends of the Ghostwind Appaloosas and more history about the Appaloosa breed itself? I'm doing research now but anything else I can learn would be great.

I want the story to be a story yet be based in truth. Of course I may have to fudge things a bit since it will be fiction but a basis in truth is essential for me to begin. It will give the story authenticity and a place to begin.

I'm thinking Faceman and GhostwindAppaloosas will be very helpful here. Is there a way to tag a person?

I should. I actually just learned something FASCINATING that will play so well into the story...based in truth but of course fiction will happen. Oh man. Must keep researching and researching...my local library is going to be so tired of me!

The Legend of the Ghost Wind Stallions

My stallion Ghost Wind Phantom "Phantom" is a descendant of the Ghost wind stallions...

He shuffles and passes it onto his offspring. It is said the ghostwind stallions always had 4-5 spots on their left side.

He will often stamp a son.. another ghost wind stallion to carry on the line.. We were so very lucky to be blessed with one this year...

His son.. Ghostwind Spirit... "Spirit"

He is also as shuffler.

Follow phantoms pedigree to the ghost wind stallions mentioned in the article....

Neat. I think I've read that article before. My story even though fiction will in some way involve Winged Hawk because he fits into the time period I'm planning to use. I still have a TON of research to do but I have an idea for the opening of the book which I do not need a lot of research to complete.

The breeder who has graciously provided me with the last of her beautiful herd has refered me to the book by Don Ladonde. I hope someone here can help me locate a copy. May be some reliable fact here as well as some good reading. Thanks for the help if any. Rusty
