Hate that so many of you seem to have disrespectful neighbors! It's really frustrating when people just don't understand how much danger you put a rider and their horse in when they do things.

Luckily at my barn, the people are very kind and, even though we ride on the dirt road, they don't speed and will move over when they see horses out. There is a blind curve though, which can be scary some times.

However, at my old barn, the riding arena was right beside a pretty busy country road that led to the interstate and 18 wheelers and people would CONSTANTLY honk and speed when we were riding in there. It gave most of the horses a near heart attack, all the noise and big trucks whizzing by! I can't even tell you how many times riders fell off because their horses spooked at the honking. We eventually got my trainer a sign to put up (mostly as a joke) that said, "SLOW DOWN! THIS ISN'T A $#%^% FREEWAY!". (the symbols were actually there, too)

I don't think I'd want to be under that bullet when it came back to earth.
The Mythbuster covered this once. Turns out that while a bullet falling back to earth after having been shot straight into the air can potentially harm someone, it is very likely that it wont. There has to be a perfect storm type setup which just doesn't happen unless you know, you're the Mythbusters.

how many times have i asked them to PLEASE not shoot their freaking little guns at their stupid little targets NEXT to the road or RIGHT NEXT to my horse? I am on MY property and/or public property?!

now when gun season is in, i truly respect their actions. they have their hobby as i have mine. but when the seasons out, and i am enjoying my time, ITS MY TIME. i give up trails so as to not get shot and scare your precious little critters away. And when you KNOW that my horses have problems with your gun blasting a target right next to them you should give me that same respect, right?!

have 3 neighbors that have on a consistent basis made it a "fun" thing to shoot their guns right as i am walking by. i make my presence known, give a little wave, and even today provided a little reminder for their thick skulls by pointing at my horse as they stared in my direction. but what do they do? as my mares hindquarters barely make it past their shoulders "BAAAAM!"

i sincerely appreciate your "jokes" as my and my "stupid horse" transition to a bareback canter from a simple walk on the slippery pavement next to MY house. boy was that a blast, and good job missing your target you great white hunter you.

and then maybe 10 mins later, ANOTHER a-hole decides to push the 25 mph speed limit to about 50 as he comes around the curb almost hitting me, my horse, and my dog. GOOD FOR YOU JERK. and let me just say i was on the side of the road. yep, i have a PhD in tire slicing.

Not sure about where you live (I'd check the laws, if I were you), but around here, it's illegal to fire a gun, regardless of the size, within a half mile of habitation (unless it's for home or property defense, which is different). I'd check up on your laws and see if you can get the sheriff or police after these idiots, since obviously handling it yourself isn't working.
Do not tell me I can't...because I will show you that I can.
