Abuse? don't think so, that word has been getting thrown around quite a bit lately.

Smrobs took the words right out of my mouth. I will start saying abuse when they have his head tied down to his chest and flogging him with a piece of dog chain. Not my practice to get on a weanling, but I don't mess with them hardly at all until two.

Does anyone else find it disturbing that those pictures were off the horse owners Facebook page?

It bothers me that pictures on your FB can be used by anyone to make a short video on YouTube to scream abuse. Or like in another thread from last week, a snipet of a schooling session put on YouTube labeled as abuse.

Frankly, looks like another ridiculous example of someone using some photos and screaming abuse.

I recently (Nov-Jan) paid a trainer to do some of that stuff with my spooky 11 year old mare. For her own good, as well as mine, she needed to learn how to handle 'scary' things - and it is much harder to teach at 11 years! Someone would have done her a huge favor by doing those things when she was young.

As for backing...no, I would not do it. However, if it was just for a brief time, it probably didn't do much harm. When I was a kid, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, we would carry each other sometimes while playing. Of course, that may be why I ended up 5'8" instead of an All-Star in the NBA...not! If a 5-6 year old can carry someone his own weight around the playground without damaging his growth plates and other stuff, then a short time on the back of a small horse probably isn't all that harmful. I wouldn't do it myself, but that doesn't mean it is abusive.

Accusations of abuse, spread on the Internet, can mess up someone's life. Folks ought to keep their mouths shut and their fingers away from the keyboard unless the abuse meets the legal standard - and then they should report it to someone who can do something about it.

"People can teach us the rules, but only horses can teach us the art of riding."

OH NO HES SWEATY! lol if making a horse sweat is abuse then lock me up. I live in AZ and all the horses sweat even during a walk at night! xD

That video sounded like a 13 year old made it. I was of the same opinion as many people here, I didn't see anything wrong with the video until they mounted the foal... I am not very educated in terms of training horses or anything of the sort, but I know abuse when I see it and that didn't really seem like abuse except for getting on the little thing..

Dressage for me please!
