    The story of a horse...

When I was younger. 12 I got my first horse. He is a bay anglo arab. He was 1 1/2 years old when I got him, and man was I in for it. Unbroke untrained beauty pure beauty I loved him so much. Splash was the name he came with. I worked with him. Just me and the horse so I didnt know much about training then all the horses I rode were trained. From that day on I became a trainer. My mom had high hopes for him in grade racing... me I wanted to do barrels but more importantly just ride him. He barley took a saddle the min he thought ud get on him he was a bucking fit. Like I said I knew nothing of horse training. Didnt know what a lunge line was. I subscribed to every horse maggazine out there. Horse illistrated clinton anderson john lynons read anything I could. Picked up books every report in school was on arabions or horses or training. I happened to fall in love with racing. My horse splash was first sat on by a jocky named denis. He was rode ran ran ran... if he wasnt hot blooded enough.. well we bring splash home. The place he called home at this time wasnt much... a make shift run in and 3 acres. I went to school telling my friends splash was home!! But I didnt quite feel right..got off the bus at my friends house hellping her move and I get a phone call... my mom I was thinking at that minute why is mom calling me gosh I told her I was helping moo. (that her nickname) I answered with MOM! And I instantly stoped wen she said you need to come home now. I knew something was wrong I ran... I was in track and I don't think I ever ran so fast in my life all 5 blocks... I get there I see leg wraps cotton gauze and some horse salve. Oh no.. I start crying its a leg and that means one thing for a horse... on the way there my mom sais to me I don't know if hell live or if hell even be able to be rode. ( I haddent even rode him yet!) but at that second I found true love. I said as long as he can walk and live happy and pain free I want him. My mother ended it there. Payed all the vet bills for a horse with a broken leg. Months whent by. And all he could do is stand there and eat lay back down. My mom and the vet said to me one day make him walk jess. Its now or never. So I called him and as funny as it sounds he picked his front left off the ground and hobbled on 3 leggs I havent ever seen any horse do that. Not even to this day. That's heart. We soon moved and set up the farm here. Where his pasture's are free of anything that can hurt him we soon found out just how splash took to training. Im not scared to admit I was terrified of this horse my friend said to me a horse will not smack into a person... people that's a load of bull ****. This horse put me in cattle gate after caddle gate into apple trees found out I could ride a buck so he decided rolling over is a better alteritive to getting people off of you. Many people called him worthless, untrainable, stupid, even said for me to get rid of him. I didnt. Years ago when he had hurt his leg. My mom shiped him off to be broke by a man known around here, oh he broke him old fashioned way hates guys now. Why my step dad who used to rase arabs didnt do it who knows I wanted to but at 14 what are you going to do? Well I kept the horse rode him back and fourth to trail rides. One day a car decieded to try to hit us why I have no clue. So my horse was now terrfied of cars too! My sister came home from a rehab and she had been ridding horses there. She wanted to ride him I didnt like it but my mom saddled him up and told her to get up there... down the rode he went as soon as he couldnt see me he freaked bucked her off and ran up to me. My mom got on him the next day and said he needs to learn to run again jessie I tryed to tell her hed run when he felt **** good and ready too but I just kissed him on the nose and said she wants a ride give her one. Boy did he. He ran alright broke like a true race horse off she went. Sorry now but I laughed so hard. He ran right to me and I said see he didnt want to run. Back to when we moved... my mom decided to get another horse, so me and all my friends started ridding togeather well kids being kids we decided to race and of course I always won I used to think he was the fastest horse in the world every day we ran 3 miles. No problem. That's a lot! But it seemed so short... then I decided he needs to put that to work with encoragement from my friend casey who runs barrels but doesnt train her horses to I started him out doing it.. but of course I had to go back to lesson 1 lunging and ground work.. he is sound. He's 7 years old and he's in training for barrels. To this day we hope to make it far just me and him. I wount let anyone else train him I know him best and if we ever do make it somewhere semi pro or even just known around here for doing something big... then ill be crazy but im proud with him just trying.

    Wonderful story!
Was his leg actually broken and how!? Fantastic recovery.
You took me back to when I was 11 and bought my first mare, an 18 month Quarab. I trained her myself and she was simply incredible, there will never be another horse like her for me. I once let a friend ride my mare, they made it about 50 feet when she bucked her off and my mare came back to me shaking her head! LOL!
Cherish him, spoil him, and do be careful with him!

You must post pictures of your miracle man!

I have been planning on uploading some yes his leg broke he ripped his tendon? Sp? You can still see the scar right above his hoof when he goes lame he will hop on three legs and he's sound the next day scares me everytime but he always recovers well. The vet told me its probably pain like we get after we break an arm and it gets cold or rainy. Or we over work that arm. He's a great horse. I had a 7000 doller offer on him and I turned them down they said why and I replyed sorry but he's more then just a trail horse to me hell make it somewhere one day. And the guy took that with a smile.

So did he break his leg (fracture the bone/s) *and* tear the tendon or just tear the tendon?

Is this the same horse who broke it's leg during a tornado? I mean either this horse has the worst luck every or this is one heck of a "story"

Why would I lie about his life? That be stupid to do to a buch of people I don't know. Its the same horse. He still has problems with lameness in the leg every so often and will probably retire before most horses should but he's got a lot in him still. He loves his job whatever it may be at the time.

I posted pictures of him. He's the bay. We had a tornado come thru and his run in in that pasture fliped over it had a tin roof and the foundation was still on he I guess thought that he could still run into it to get away from the weather witch would have worked all exept where it fliped there was a hole that made him trip or fall and then he freaked out the vet told me if he were to stay calm (yeah right.) he would have been fine.

I want to let you know I didnt think he would make it it took over a year to heal him and if he would have been older we probably wouldnt have been able to be rode at all if he recovered. And my mom spent a lot of money and time finding vets that had hope for him.
