Stubborn horse!

Yesterday I went to get my horse in from the field - he would NOT move! He was stood next to his feeder where the hay is and think he was much more interested in eating than coming in. I tried tempting him with a carrot and after about 20 minutes he decided he'd come in. Any tips on how to persuade him out of the field without using food??

sometimes giving their bum a little flick with the lead rope can help, or feed him a little something when you bring him in, one of our horses he used to be stubborn like that but because he wasn't the alpha in his little herd he'd get bullied a bit so i think he maby learned that he got peace and quiet to eat away from the field and was quite happy to follow. or maby feed him after you've done some work i dunno just a few ideas

Jenson is the bully of the field! But thats the first time I've really had a little trouble bringing him in. He usually gets fed after being ridden, though he's getting a bit fat so i've reduced his food a bit. I'll keep carrots in my pocket just in case! I like to give him a little treat anyway when he comes in so I suppose it doesn't really matter whether I use food to get him to follow me! Just thought he might come in coz he wanted to - obviously not, haha!

the pressure release method and a little patience will get him moving and probably establish an understanding, are you familiar with that?
