I got brave today. It's 100 degrees in MN with horrible humidity and very uncomfortable. I just started trying to ride Whiskey bareback in the arena here and there. I'm not great at it, but I refuse to give up. I'm closing in on 40 years old and I have a lot I want to experience with my horse.
A lot of the girls at the barn take their horses about a 1/2 mile down a rather major road to a lake and go swimming. It was too hot for my lessons today, and I mentioned that I'd like to go to the lake. My instructor, her sister, the BO said they'd love to go. Oh crap, now I have to REALLY do this!
Well, I did it. I rode 1/2 mile down the road, Whiskey was a champ, except when he decided to trot to catch up, I wasn't ready for that and think I hurt some unmentionable areas by getting tense and bouncing around. We went right in the lake and he swam with me on him and loved it. We went in pretty deep, but he could still touch most of the time. Then he'd climb out, turn around, and head back in. The lake wasn't as cool as I hoped, but we had a great time. And..I didn't fall off in the water or on the road!
I'm just elated over this experience!
